The NCAA Clearinghouse is an organization that clears athletes for initial eligibility in NCAA division I and II athletic programs. So if you have a student athlete with aspirations for college athletics, it would be prudent to take note of the following:
Ø Requirements are based upon all four years of high school.
Ø When an athlete completes an Athletic Registration Form here at Arapahoe High School, both the parents and the student-athlete sign off stating that they both understand that they are responsible for all NCAA Clearinghouse information. Please read everything carefully.
Ø The Clearinghouse wishes student-athletes to register on-line; we have only been given registration forms for students who do not have internet access.
Ø If student-athletes have attended more than one high school, they need official transcripts from each high school attended sent directly to the Clearinghouse.
Ø Student-athletes may bring signed release forms to Mrs. Patti Schaff in the Guidance Center to have official transcripts sent to the NCAA at no charge.
Ø Only students who have received proper NCAA approval for their diagnosed learning disability may receive credit for NCAA approved remedial courses, such as Basic Skills classes.
Ø
The “List of Approved Core Courses” is in our
Pathfinder
with core credits marked next to them.
Ø The Guide for College-Bound Student-Athletes is available on line through the NCAA Clearinghouse web site. It includes a worksheet to compute a student-athlete’s NCAA core GPA, and correlates that GPA with the appropriate ACT or SAT test score minimums.
Ø If student-athletes need any help with filling out the NCAA Clearinghouse information, please ask them to make an appointment with their counselor.
The NCAA Clearinghouse evaluates a student’s eligibility for participation based upon a student-athlete’s entire academic career. Therefore, it is wise to develop a high school plan for meeting the NCAA’s requirements.
The NCAA Clearinghouse Web-Site
Accessing the NCAA Clearinghouse web-site is a fairly simple process if you have some internet experience.
First type the following in the address line of your web browser and hit enter.
Information concerning who needs to register with the Clearinghouse and what documents should be submitted can be found in The Guide for College-Bound Student-Athletes. In it you will find a work sheet for figuring student-athletes’ core GPAs, a table showing required standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) and GPAs for qualifying and many more answers to your questions. You may read this guide on your computer screen or print it if you have access to a printer.
Student-athletes may also register on-line if they have a credit card that is accepted by the NCAA Clearinghouse. In order to access registration you go to the second paragraph on the page and click on the blue colored Domestic Student Release Form link near the end of the paragraph. Registration costs $50 and is simple to complete.
After you register on-line, you will be asked if you wish to print copies of the transcript request forms. Please do so and bring the signed copies to Mrs. Patti Schaff in the Guidance Center so that your transcripts may be sent to the NCAA Clearinghouse. There are two forms because one releases your current transcript information, while the other grants permission for your final transcript to be sent after graduation.
Once you are registered you will be able to access your information on-line by using your social security number and the pin number that you put on your application. The internet appears to be the quickest way to access information about your NCAA Clearinghouse file.
